a more personal video and post

Hi Reader,

For a long time, I described my work through skill, process, observation, and learning how to see.

But recently I’ve been realizing something deeper has always been there too.

When I look back at my Anonymous Woman series, my caregiving and motherhood work, and even some of the newer pieces I’m developing now, I can see that I’ve consistently been interested in context.

How changing context changes meaning.

How assumptions shape what we see as important, neutral, invisible, safe, valuable, or worthy of attention.

And often, that means engaging with power in quiet, everyday ways.

In this week’s video, I talk about:

  • why I’ve been nervous to speak about this more openly
  • how I’m rethinking older work
  • the fear of visibility as an artist
  • why discomfort changes as we grow creatively
  • and how art can become a way of speaking through attention and reframing

I also share a bit more personally about why I think feeling “safe enough” to share work is sometimes less about confidence and more about nervous system capacity and visibility.

And I’d love to hear from you afterward:

Have you ever looked back at older work and realized you were exploring something long before you consciously understood it?

Remember: proudly call yourself an artist.

Together we are Artist Strong.
